ALMA Cycle 5 Proposal Review: Detailed Report

A detailed report on the outcome of the ALMA Cycle 5 Proposal Review Process is now available. The report details the proposal review process, proposal statistics and regional distributions, as well as the proposal distribution across science categories and receiver bands. The report can be downloaded here.

Status of ALMA Observations and Relocation to Long Baselines

The ALMA Observatory has experienced back to back severe winter storms, making it difficult to recover the 12-m array for PI observations. This has had an even more detrimental impact on the relocation to the long baselines.

Cycle 5 Phase 2 deadline

The Cycle 5 Phase 2 deadline by which approved projects need to be submitted to the archive is anticipated to be Sept 7th 2017. Find this announcement in the ALMA Science Portal.

Supplemental Call for Proposals to use the 7-m Array in Cycle 4

The ALMA Director announces that the Joint ALMA Observatory (JAO) will accept observing proposals that request to use the 7-m Array in the remainder of Cycle 4, which ends on September 30, 2017. This proposal call enables the community to propose projects that will fill in undersubscribed regions of the observing queue for the 7-m Array.

ALMA Cycle 5 Call for Proposals in now open

The ALMA Director, on behalf of the Joint ALMA Observatory (JAO) and the partner organizations in East Asia, Europe, and North America, is pleased to announce the ALMA Cycle 5 Call for Proposals (CfP) for scientific observations to be scheduled from October 2017 to September 2018.

A Change in the ALMA Configuration Near the End of Cycle 3

The Joint ALMA Observatory (JAO) has examined the distribution of remaining QA2 non-Pass executions for the 5km array (C36-7) and has determined that given the distribution, the observatory will not revisit the 5km array near the end of the Cycle 3 observing season.

ALMA Proposal Preparation Day 2016

Announcement from the Italian Node
In preparation to the ALMA Cycle 4 proposal submission deadline of April 21st, the Italian node of the European ARC is organizing an "ALMA proposal preparation day" to support the ALMA users to prepare their proposals. This meeting will be held at the INAF-Osservatorio di Radioastronomia, Bologna, on the 11-12th of April.

Call for Proposals for APEX/SEPIA Band 9

A new Band 9 receiver was installed inside the Swedish ESO PI receiver for Apex (SEPIA) at APEX in early February. This receiver, built by NOVA, is a copy of the ALMA Band 9 receiver, and covers frequencies from 600 to 722 GHz.

ALMA Cycle 4 Information for Large Programs

New ALMA Science Verification Data

A new installment of Science Verification data is available. This release contains data on the following Science Verification target: IRAS16293-2422 spectral line observations in Band 4 (CH3CN, CH3OH) with the 12-m Array, demonstrating the Band 4 capability.

ALMA and GMVA Observations in Cycle 4

People interested in proposing VLBI observations with ALMA should be informed that ALMA will participate in some GMVA observations during ALMA Cycle 4 at 3mm wavelengths in the period Oct 1 2016 - Sept 30 2017.
